Samsung refrigerator error codes point to a specific system — usually a fan, sensor, defrost or ice-maker fault. Codes like 22C, 22E, 21E and 5E are the ones we see most. Here is what the common ones mean and when to call a technician.
Common Samsung codes
- 22C / 22E: fridge fan fault — often ice jamming the evaporator fan
- 21E: freezer fan error
- 5E / 25E: defrost sensor or ice-maker defrost issue
- 88 or 85: a reset or power glitch; try a power cycle first
- OF OF: demo/cooling-off mode — not a fault; exit demo mode
Try this first
For a code like 88 or OF OF, unplug the fridge for five minutes or exit demo mode (hold the top two buttons). If the code returns, or you see a fan or defrost code, there is usually ice on the evaporator or a failed part that needs service.
When to call
Fan and defrost codes mean a tech should open the back panel, clear the ice and test the fan, sensor and heater. We fix the exact part and give you the price up front. See our Samsung page for more.
