A washer that shakes, walks across the floor, or bangs during spin is usually just unlevel. Leveling it takes a few minutes with a wrench and a level. If it still shakes after leveling, worn suspension or shocks are the next thing to check.
How to level it
- Put a level on top, front-to-back and side-to-side
- Loosen the lock nut on each adjustable front foot
- Turn the foot up or down until the washer is level and solid
- Tighten the lock nuts
- For rear self-leveling feet, tilt the washer forward and set it down to reset them
Check the floor and load
A soft or uneven floor makes any washer shake — a plywood base helps. Always wash balanced loads; a single heavy item (a rug or comforter) throws off the spin and mimics a leveling problem.
Still shaking?
If it’s level, balanced, and still banging hard, the suspension rods or shock absorbers are worn — a repair of $200–$350. We can test and replace them, with the price up front.
