Oven & Range
A gas burner that clicks but won’t light is usually dirty, wet, or misaligned — not broken. Food and moisture on the burner cap or igniter block the spark. Clean and dry it first. If it still won’t light or won’t stop clicking, the igniter or spark module may need service.
Clean and realign first
- Turn off the burner and let it cool
- Lift off the burner cap and clean the ports with a pin or toothbrush
- Dry the cap and igniter fully — moisture stops the spark
- Seat the cap squarely back in place
If it still won’t light
- Clicking that won’t stop: usually a wet or failing igniter or switch
- No spark at all: a cracked igniter or bad spark module
- Lights slowly or unevenly: clogged ports
Safety and repair
If you smell gas, turn it off and ventilate; call your gas company if it’s strong. For a cracked igniter or spark module, we replace the part ($150–$320) and test every burner.
